Mother of NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns dies due to complications from COVID-19

Jacqueline Cruz Towns, 58, mother of all NBA star Carl Anthony Towns, has died of complications from coronaviruses, her family said on Monday. Town's father, also infected with the virus, but in good health.

"Jackie was a lot of things for a lot of people - wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and girlfriend," the Towns family said. "The heroine of the city family was an incredible power. The fiery, caring, and affectionate person who everyone touched met. Her passion was palpable and her energy will never be replaced."

Carl Anthony Towns posted an emotional video clip on his Instagram page. "I think it is important for everyone to understand the severity of what is happening in the world now with coronavirus, and I think the place of my life now can help, so I decided to make this video and give you an update of where I am," said M at the time.

"Jackie gave him steady and positive energy and was loved by our entire organization and our employees at Target Center because she supported her son and Timberwolves," Towns' team said in a statement praising Cruz Town's role in her son's career. "The league, teams, and players have come together to support Jackie and Carl and we are grateful to the NBA family."
